Cerakote: Performance coatings for performance bicycles
Cycling enthusiasts are constantly searching for innovative equipment, designs, or new and advanced features to enhance their performance or the performance of their bicycle. Whether it’s the shape of bike frames or lightweight components and accessories – new technologies are the driving force behind most improvements in the cycling world. Cerakote’s ceramic coating brings a robust, durable, and revolutionary finish to the bicycle industry.
Performance characteristics of Cerakote coatings
The ceramic coatings from Cerakote offer a range of outstanding properties for bicycles and bicycle parts.
Abrasion and Scratch Resistant
The Cerakote coating is extremely resistant to mechanical wear, such as impacts and scratches.
Low friction
The DFL (Dry-Film Lubricant) ceramic coating has self-lubricating properties with an extremely low and approximately twice as good coefficient of friction as, for example, Teflon.
Corrosion Resistance
The coatings from Cerakote effectively protect the surfaces of the bicycle or bicycle parts from rust and corrosion.
Chemical Resistance
Cerakote coatings are themselves resistant to aggressive cleaning and detergent agents.
Liability
Cerakote coatings adhere to almost all surfaces, such as steel, aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber, polymers, and other surfaces.
Thin-film ceramic coating
With a layer thickness of only 6-50 µm, the coatings are ideal for parts with very tight tolerances and enable a weight reduction compared to other coatings and powder coatings.
Applications on bicycles and bicycle parts
Cerakote ceramic coatings can be used for various solutions. These include:
Ultralight Coating
The thin-layer application of Cerakote allows for a significant weight reduction compared to other paints and powder coatings.
Thin-film technology
Cerakote has a thin coating thickness of only 6-50 µm. This makes the paint ideal for all parts of the bicycle where low weight and tight tolerances are important.
Liability
Cerakote can be used on any non-rubberized surface and can therefore be applied anywhere on the bike: frame, rims, handlebars, sprockets, and more.
Unique
Cerakote offers unlimited color options for all parts of the bow. By combining different colors or laser-etching patterns, creativity knows no bounds.
Easy to operate
The innovative self-lubricating coating (DFL-200) is ideal for all bicycle parts where extremely low resistance is of great importance. The PFAS-free coating has been proven to have approximately half the coefficient of friction compared to Teflon.
Perfect Fit
Cerakote ceramic coatings have military-grade quality that surpasses any other type of coating, such as anodizing or powder coating. Cerakote reduces wear on moving parts and improves durability, while also offering numerous different color options.
Durability
The unique ceramic technology of Cerakote makes the coated surfaces of the bicycle extremely resistant to things like chemicals, UV rays, sweat, impacts, blows, scratches, and much more.
Disadvantages of traditional bicycle paints and why Cerakote is better than conventional bicycle paint
When purchasing mountain bikes or road bikes, many cyclists agree that the overall weight of the bike is one of the most important buying attributes. Cerakote is a thin single-layer ceramic-based coating (10 – 40 µm). This results in a weight reduction of two to four hundred grams (on average) compared to powder coatings or other paint-based coating systems.
Whether in racing or recreational use, road bikes and off-road bikes, especially mountain bikes, are subject to heavy wear. Cerakote is a ceramic-based performance coating. Cerakote offers industry-leading durability, hardness, and scratch resistance as well as chemical resistance that protects the entire finish of your bike. Cerakote is not prone to chipping or blistering, which often occur in existing paints. It is completely chemical resistant and is not affected by chemicals such as road oil, tar, chain lubricants, or brake fluid.
Furthermore, the chemical composition of Cerakote provides rust protection properties, offering exceptional protection for small mechanical parts. Additionally, the low coefficient of friction and lubricity means less wear on moving parts, which can drastically improve durability while supporting an overall smoother ride. Reduced friction also means improved mechanical efficiency.
Both Cerakote Elite and the H-Series are suitable for most bicycle frame repairs and/or manufacturing. There are endless customization possibilities for frames, forks, handlebars, stems, seat posts, rims, hubs, spokes, and other small parts.
